House of Holland for Elegant Touch False Nails

I recently managed to break all my nails which were lovely and long. I was really bummed but soon realised it was a perfect time to try some glue on nails I had lying around.

A while ago I won a huge stack of glue on nails so I have a few boxes sat in my drawer doing nothing. I haven’t had a lot of luck with false nails before (read about a previous experience here) so I had hoped that this time would work out better.

So, the set I tried were designed by House of Holland for Elegant Touch. This particular set are no longer available, but you can browse the current House of Holland Collection on Elegant Touch’s website. A set of 24 nails in varying sizes, including a nail file and nail glue will set you back around £7.99 – £8.99. The set I picked to try was called “Mental Monsters” and featured an array of brightly coloured monster faces.

In the box, you get a set of instructions, 24 nails in different sizes, a nail file and a little pot of nail glue.

First things first, I prepped my gross, broken nails, removing the old polish, kicking myself yet again for not using a base coat when I saw how stained they were. I filed them and as per the instructions made sure my nails were clean, dry and the cuticles prepared.

You then make sure you have the right false nail for each finger, each size is numbered on the reverse of the nail and the number also serves as a handy hint as to which way up the nails go! I laid each nail out ready to be glued.

Following the intructions, I glued each nail to my own nails. I am pleased to report that I didn’t glue any of my fingers together or any of the nails to the wrong part of my finger so I was pretty pleased with myself.

The finished look was pretty cool.

Left hand:

Right hand:

I did have trouble matching the sizes exactly, some of them could have done with an in between size, so I was concerned that they looked a little false.

Unfortunately, an hour after I had applied them, my thumb nail popped clean off. I had done literally nothing to instigate this, I hadn’t even had my hands in water in the previous hour. In fact all I had done was sat on a chair and watched the television so there was no reason for it to pop off so randomly. On closer inspection, another four nails soon gave way after a gentle prod. So I removed all of them. Bearing in mind that there are special instructions to remove these nails which involve soaking them in nail polish remover, the fact that I got every nail off bar two with no special equipment other than pushing on the nail was unimpressive.

According to the instructions, applied correctly these glue on nails should last up to 10 days. Mine barely lasted 10 minutes.

I could put this experience down to poor instruction following, but I followed the steps to the letter and I didn’t do anything in the hour that proceeded the sad loss of each colourful, plastic nail. This is the second set of Elegant Touch nails I have tried and I am massively disappointed. I don’t think I have toxic, plastic nail rejecting fingernails, but maybe I do. Maybe it is my own fault that these didn’t even last a day.

Before they all popped off I was pretty pleased, the nails were colourful, not too long and I really liked the funky pattern, sadly, this first impression lasted all of an hour before they all went into the bin and I was buffing dried glue off my fingernails.

Have you tried stick on nails? Have they lasted? And if so, what is your secret?! What am I doing wrong?? Get in touch below.

Oh that’s such a shame as these looked fab! I’ve never really been a fan of fake nails as I hate the feeling of the glue but I do love that that give you the option to go with a design you’d never be able to do yourself!

That’s what I like about them – I sometimes think using just one nail from these sets would be a very cool accent nail without having to be talented at nail art!! xx

Oh no that’s poop they didn’t stay on for long at all! Looked fab. I have never been keen on falsies as they always feel loose. Like having gels but ruins your nails and I can’t for work

I used to have acrylics – I loved them but always ruined my nails! I try to keep them painted all the time now – I bite them if I don’t! Xx
